18th May 2007 ACGA Major #2 Merrist Woods GC 41+ 6 Guests Mike Woodstock

The Name is Woodstock……………… Mike Woody Woodstock

Just a reminder of what Mike preached at the beginning of the year. “I’ll take a bet that I will win a major in 2007” He followed this up with, “I’ll pay anyone who takes up this bet £10 if I don’t will a major, BUT if I do, you will pay me £20. This was a bold statement from someone who joined the ACGA in 1996 he Has been captain, and is currently the news editor and has given generously to other members on other major days. Word had gone out that you could almost guarantee to offset any lost with a Woody £5 & £5.

Listen Mike has been in contention before but never been able to hold on, could he hang on this time. Let’s see….

For those who attended last year, you know what I mean. This year at Merrist Wood we had electricity; the greens are in good nic, not like the beach at Margate. We can buy a drink at the bar. The weather although windy it’s warm. We again have a full house of 48 golfers. Milton Marsh is in attendance trying to win back to back majors. Also in the field is Cassius Browne looking for his second win in 2007. We also try out our new format of 27 holes. 9 in the morning followed by 18 in the afternoon, all the usual bets are in and the first group are about to tee off.

After a quick fire 9 the contenders are. Mayhe(18) Damion(18) Stuart(17) Woody(18) Henry(18) just one point separate the top seven. Yep Milton Marsh is the other one right there on (17) looking back to back.

Light lunch to refuel the tank then back out there for the big eighteen. The wind is a bit fresher and you should have noticed that all the pins where at the front of the green, its birdie time.

The afternoon scores start to come in, Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda is the cry. Milton can’t reproduce his morning game. Randy Plowright puts together the round of the afternoon with 35 points. Now before I get to the top five, at the ACGA we always like to give a warm welcome to our guest for the day and a special mention must go to the boys from the West Country. Having ruff them up earlier this year, In their own back yard. Its good to see them again. We will be gentle with them as we like to see our guest return and hopefully become members in the future.

Its close, tight, neck and neck, tense, one point separates the top five

Stewart Austrie , Leo Faure and Chris Thomas 3rd all finish on 48 points well played gents

The top two can’t be split 49 points apiece. Henry Laville and Mike Woodstock tie. Who ever has the best back nine will be the new.
