Playing with the ACGA for the first time
we welcome Cora Edwards.
Along with our other
female members this
could be the catalyst
for attracting more
women to our ranks.
With
the recent wet weather
we’d been experiencing
it was a relief for all
to start the day without
our wearing our
waterproofs. Despite a
small shower midway
through the round the
quality of golf shone
through with some very
impressive morning
scores. The stars of the
morning round were Chris
Thomas & Mayhe Bernard
both with 44, the
chasing pack 3 points
behind were Keith Murray
and Del Manderson both
with 41. A further point
behind on 40 was Andy
Ferdinand and Steve
Lee-Sang.
The
topic of conversation
over lunch was ‘would
the leaders be able to
handle the pressure?’
Could they finish off
what they had started?
Or would the winner on
the day emerge from
deeper in the pack. The
first to fall was Mayhe
Bernard an injury
prevented him from
playing at his best in
the afternoon he just
missed out on a trophy
finishing in sixth
position. Steve Garner
put in a very credible
performance to follow up
his victory at Benton
Hall with 5th
place. It was good to
have Steve Lee-Sang back
with us after missing a
few events, a sturdy
40+36 wrapped up 4th
place. After some very
respectable placings in
the 3 previous events
Andy Ferdinand 40+38 3rd
must surely feel its
only a matter of time
till the Major win comes
his way, lets hope his
cut does not send him
back to the golfing
wilderness. Talking of
golfing wilderness, it
was good to see Keith
Murray picking up some
silverware with a 41+38
2nd, a score
like that on most other
occasions would be
enough to walk away with
the top prize.
The
applause and acclaim for
winning the ACGA Major
at Pyrford goes to Chris
Thomas. Winning by a
massive 6 points Chris
has set a new ACGA
record for a 36 Hole
Stableford competition.
44+41 total of 85 left
the rest of the field
languishing in his
slipstream and relegated
Mark Cato’s record of 83
to the also rans. I am
sure the whole
membership will join me
in congratulating you on
your first Major
victory; we look forward
to seeing you at
Champion of Champions
next year.
