Coffee and bacon rolls
downed, there's plenty
of cash kicking around,
sweep and personal bets
completed. The groups
make their way to the
1st and 10th tees. The
Marquess is a course
that wears its heart on
its sleeve. The holes
are very pleasing on the
eye, the panoramic 7
hole "WOW" with the
split fairways that goes
down deep into a ravine
only to re-appear up to
the green. This hole
will stay in the memory
bank as one of the very
best par 5s I've played.
Pared it by the way,
just in case you were
asking.
The weather leading into
today had not been good
but luckily for us the
weather gods looked
after us and shirt
sleeves was the order of
the day. As we moved
through the first holes
it became clear that
quality will make the
difference on this
course. Where you put
your tee shot (not how
long) would be the
winning formula.
So who's burning it up
at Woburn? I see Stuart
Austrie name on the
nearest the pin
board, he will be
looking to go one better
than Cambridge. No it's
not going to be Stu this
time.
Mike Small name was
mentioned as going along
nicely, "he must have
had some lessons" no
it's not Mike but 32
points puts him right up
there in the shake up.
If only Caswell had been
wearing those red
trousers that only
Caswell can get away
with wearing. He may
have got the two points
that was needed. 5th
place at Woburn. I'd
take it.
Listen any how Andy (4
for 7) Ferdinand had
won, listen the ACGA
would have been in a
world of Trouble, listen
I'm shaking just writing
the thing. count-back
4th place 32 points and
moving in the right
direction up the order
of merit board.
Just one point would
separate the top 6
players with 33 points
being the winning score
at Woburn. All three of
these players had to
have played well on this
demanding course.
3rd place - Leo Faure.
If you don't already
know I'm about to tell
you that Leo is the ACGA
UNOFFICIAL UK course
guide. He has already
played all the courses
that we are due to play
this year and anyone who
has something with Leo,
DO NOT look to offset at
Donnington Grove. My
contact at Donnington
has told me that he has
played the course twice
already, under par on
both occasions. Also the
green keeper has invited
him to dinner next
week. This man is
looking very dangerous
this year. Just missed
out here on 33 points,
well played Leo.
2nd place - Tennis
Russell. Got to say
thank you to Tennis for
the work he has put in
to make the Titans
affiliation to the ACGA
happen and we look
forward to seeing a lot
more of him and the boys
from Bristol at the
coming events. Now as I
said Tennis and I
have been speaking
leading up to this event
and I know Tennis is a
good golfer. BUT we all
know what it takes to
win one of our Majors.
First thing is you've
got to live in the
Greater London area,
aint no man going to
leave Bristol and think
he's taking a major back
there and another thing.
Let’s just say he did
win.... alright I know
it's not going to happen
but let’s just say he
did win. You think a man
in a GREEN SUIT could
come and take a picture
next to the captain, a
GREEN C&A SUIT you
know........you joking.
Got to tip my cap to you
Tennis you did tell me
that you would be going
home with some
silver-wear. Seniors
trophy and the runner up
prize, which makes two.
So close, Respect.
I said earlier that
quality would be the
difference and for those
of us who have come into
contact with the
gentleman on and off the
course. Quality is what
he's about. An ACGA old
timer that always brings
an up to date game with
him. Right now he could
be excused for not
giving golf his full
attention what with a
little Witter due to
arrive anytime now. But
in true ACGA fashion he
told the wife. "just
hold tight I soon come"
and off he came to
Woburn. Mobile off and
ready to play and play
he did a steady
front nine 14 points and
came back all guns
blazing 19points on the
back 33 points and new

2008 Woburn Major Winner
DEAN WITTER
It's back to the range
for the rest of us to do
it again at Canons Brook
GC on Friday 6th June.
