The
usual welcomes are
taking place. Bets,
sweep, more bets and
coffee/tea and bacon
roll. “WAIT” I saw the
loaf of bread with the
bacon inside it they
brought out and thought
the man was going to cut
it and share between
five of us. For one
person, I looked at this
thing and thought anyhow
I eat that I will need
to lie down for a good
hour.
Tee off time is upon us,
we have 48 players, 36
hole to look forward to
a and new ruling from
the committee. Each
group will need to
complete the round in
four and half hours or
less. For each fifteen
minutes over the four
and half hours taken to
complete the 18 holes. A
one point penalty will
be deducted from each
player in the group. Two
tee start two marshals
to see us off the 1st
- 8th and to
keep us in check on the
course. My group is off
the 1st and
if the 1st is
anything to go by we are
in for a tough round.
Out of bounds on the
right, trees down the
left, fairway narrowing
all the way down to red
stakes a ditch and
water. You had best find
the fairway. Wait, wait
so you find the fairway,
it’s not over yet.
Small gap to get through
to the green and on the
other side of the ditch
you have out of bounds
on the right of the
green and to your left
just for fun the people
have red stakes all the
way up to the green on
the left. You’re
frightened aren’t you?
me too. That’s just the
1st.
The course is in
pristine condition
fairways cut, greens
receptive and the ball
rolling true. Who is
going take on Canons
brook and put their
marker down for the
morning eighteen? All
the cards are in and
just one group over the
four and a half our
mark. Scampi and chips
for lunch so who are the
contenders. Dean Witter,
Ray Maginley and Randy
Plowright are all on 36
points a good score for
this course. Two new
names for the leader
board. Greg Worrell and
Peter Bennett both on 37
points a very good score
but not good enough. On
39 points and the
morning leader, Henry
Laville.
Back out for the telling
18 holes 1st-8th
tee again. Will someone
come out of the pack,
will Dean Witter seize
back to back, can the
captain hold it together
and take morning and
afternoon, could Ray
Maginley capture his 2nd
major or will Greg
Worrell, Peter Bennett,
Randy Plowright grab
their maiden major. It’s
close and had heavy rain
fall for 2/3 holes to
contend with. As the
scores start to come in
it’s clear that the
afternoon has got the
better of some of the
morning leaders
When the dust settled
the top five looked
liked this. In 5th place
made his way out of the
chasing pack on count
back and also taking the
seniors prize Cornelius
Joseph. Remember I said
we had some members
appearing for the first
time this year; well one
of them clearly was in
training while he was
away. Ray Maginley takes
4th place. In 3rd place
and his 2nd
top ten finishes this
year. I would look out
for him at Wildwood yes
it your captain Henry
Laville. Now here’s a
name we continually see
at the majors but not
one that’s in the mix.
He has assured me that
we will be seeing a lot
more of this gentleman
picking up silverware, 2nd
place good to see up
here. Randy “backspin”
Plowright. I’m not
going to say much about
our winner or to tell
you how difficult it is
to win two majors let
alone ”back to back”.
He’s a class act with a
first class game 36
points in the morning 38
points in the afternoon
tells me that we all
have some work to do and
the reason am being
brief with my write on
the winner is we may
need to write about him
again very shortly. He
has already paid for our
next major and be very
clear members he is
looking THREEPEAT.
Our
Canons
Brook
Major
winner
Is
Dean
Witter
