Captain’s Address - 2024 Season

New Captain Mark Henry (R) with previous captain Phil Nugent and long standing Lady member Ingrid Clark

Dear members, friends and family of the ACGA.

Firstly, i would like to thank you all for electing me to represent the ACGA as your captain for this coming season 2024. It is without doubt, an honour and a high point to be your Captain of this growing society. Having been a member for over 20 years, I have met so many friendly and accommodating people, played so many wonderful courses and not to mention, the weekenders within the UK or the trips abroad with the ACGA family.

We are now in our 31st year, having celebrated the big 30th milestone with a week in Turkey. Special thankyou goes out to our former captain, Phil Nugent who put his heart and soul into making this all possible, not forgetting the amazing committee he had alongside him. Unfortunately, we don't have anything as exciting as Turkey on the agenda for 2024, but we do have an amazing list of golf courses already booked for us this coming season. To wet your appetite, we will have x7 majors inc. Captains Day, a Singles comp, Champion of Champions as well as the order of merit where yours truly is the current holder.

The ACGA have always welcomed guests. I would encourage you all to spread the word and let's continue to grow our wonderful society. Whether you are young or old, scratch golfer or beginner, I urge you to come and play. As we all know, whether your golf was good or bad, the fun starts once the round has finished and then the laughter really begins. There is always an abundance of joy around the dinner table as well as raising as much money as possible for various charities.

This year will be the final year with our chosen charities, 'Prostate UK and Wellness of Women'. This is because we believe that smaller charitable organisations may benefit better with a little help from ourselves.

This year, we will be trialling out the whs handicap system as previously we had been going 'old school'. This does mean however, that a lot more work will need to be done via our handicap secretary, but please may I ask you to help as much as you can by submitting your scores on the IG app or similar. I will send regular updates as reminders. If anyone isn't sure how to do this, please let me know and i will do my best to help.

As this is my first time as your captain, I realise there may be some bumps in the road ahead. With the strength and support of the committee, I will endeavour to do my very best in keeping the spirit and tradition of the ACGA alive and not only challenge but try to solve any issues that may arise. After all, we are all friends and very much a family, and we will continue to grow.

As I draw to a close, I'd like to remind you that I am always at your disposal for each and every one of you. Should there be any questions or concerns, then please either let me know or any other member of the committee asap.

Thank you once again for having me as your captain, and I look forward impatiently to seeing you all for the start of the season in April at our 1st major.

Happy Golfing

Mark Henry

ACGA Captain.
