Donnington Grove GC

Game, Set and Match

Our winner had been
confident that his game
was in good shape and
that he would be ready
come Friday. So pleased
with the way he had been
striking the ball on
Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday
that he sent the Captain
a e-mail informing him
that he was so sure that
he would pick up his
first major that he was
in the process of
writing is winning
speech (click
here to read speech).
The captain returned the
mail reminding him that
this was not the Titans
major day but the real
deal.

ACGA & BRISTOL TITANS
G.S
They are
known today as the
Titans Golf Society.
Looking back to 2004 a
group of players would
meet up occasionally to
play a round of golf in
the Bristol area. Tennis
Russell, who has in the
past thoroughly enjoyed
himself in the company
of the ACGA, felt the
need to bottle the
experience and take it
back to Bristol. On
returning to Bristol
Tennis shared his
excitement with the 8 or
so players and set out
on the road to mirror
the format of the ACGA
golf days, in the west
county. Four years on,
The Titans golf Society
have over 30 members who
play 5 majors and one
charity event each year.
Celtic Manor Hotel, PGA,
Ryder Cup 2010 venue,
The Players, one of the
longest PGA courses in
Europe and Bowood House.
Are some of the top
courses the Titans have
played.
The
Titans members have been
regular attendees at the
ACGA majors over the
years and recently the
ACGA members have
travelled to Bristol to
be part of Titans
events. The relationship
has also given us the
opportunity to play each
other in a head to head
match Titans vs. ACGA. I
think I’m right in
saying its ACGA 1 Titans
0. We are also in
concluding stages of
putting together a
bi-annual match in the
Ryder cup format to
start in 2009.
Finally I
have the great pleasure
of formalising the first
ACGA affiliation. From
April 2008 members of
the Titans Golf Society
will compete in all ACGA
majors as a full ACGA
member. We truly hope
that this will be the
start of a long and
thrilling partnership.
To all
the members of the
Titans golf Society,
WELCOME
Henry
Laville

While competing in any
ACGA event a player may
obtain distance
information by using a
device that measures
distance only. However,
if, during a stipulated
round, a player uses a
distance measuring
device that is designed
to gauge or measure
other conditions that
might affect his play
(e.g. gradient,
wind-speed, temperature,
etc.), the player is in
breach of Rule 14-3, for
which the penalty is
disqualification,
regardless of whether
any such additional
functions are actually
used. The ACGA will
monitor the use of these
devices and reserves the
right to withdraw their
use at any time in the
future.
HANDICAP WARNING
All members must declare
to the handicap
secretary their current
club handicap. If your
club handicap is lower
than your society
handicap you will be
required to play off
your club handicap
irrespective of what
your society handicap
may have been. Any
member known to have
played off a society
handicap that is higher
than their official one
will be disqualified
from that tournament and
subject to disciplinary
action. You should also
be aware that the
handicap secretary might
contact your golf club
to verify your handicap
at his discretion.
If you have any
questions with regard
the handicap system,
please contact our
Handicap Secretary Mr
Greg Worrell

From 1 January 2008, a
Rule of Golf will be
introduced limiting the
’spring-like’ effect of
driving clubs for all
golfers of all ability.
The introduction of this
Rule was announced in
August 2002 and it has
been applied at the
elite level, via a
Condition of
Competition, since 1st
January 2003.
This ‘new’ Rule will
affect the conformance
status of some drivers
currently in the
marketplace and in
players’ bags. ACGA
members are, therefore,
encouraged to check
their own driver, and
any driver they may buy
in the future, in
preparation for 2008.
Failure to comply WILL
result in instant
disqualification at ACGA
events for 2008.
To help provide correct
information on driver
head conformance, two
Lists have been compiled
and published:
To view or search the
List of Conforming
Driver Heads, please
click on the link below.
All of the clubs on this
List have been ruled to
conform to the Rules of
Golf and they will
continue to conform
after 1st January 2008.
