Captain Mark leads from the front!

New captain Mark Henry wins the first major under his captaincy at Essendon GC.

On what was according to member Mark Quamina, a “Brutal” round of golf in soft and windy conditions, Mark Henry made history by becoming the first Captain to win the first event under their captaincy. A full field of 36 golfers including two guests took to Essendon’s very damp New course to welcome in the new season. Once Captain mark led the first group away, the remaining field battled their way through what was a very testing round of golf. Once back in the clubhouse, there was the usual head-shaking, bet settling and general “shoulda, woulda, coulda’s”. Ultimately despite the difficult conditions, there were respectable scores on the day. 2nd, 3rd and 4th were settle on countback, with long-time members Malcolm O’Garro and Keith Murray placing 2nd and 3rd respectively. New member Gerry Anderson placed 4th. All three with 33pts. As mentioned, Captain Mark Henry led the field home with an excellent 36pts. Congratulations Mark. May your great golf continue, but hopefully with more competition from the field. On we go to Winter Hill GC for major number 2 on May 3rd….
