Double dose of Protain!!

Protain Takes the Crown on Captain Randy's Day for his 2nd major win…..

The ACGA gathered at Harpenden Common Golf Club on 7th October for Captain Randy Plowright's Captain's Day, an occasion filled with competitive golf, good humour and outstanding generosity. Following one of the driest summers in recent memory, the fairways were still recovering, but the beautifully maintained greens more than made up for it, providing excellent putting surfaces and a proper test of skill. And when the final scores were counted, one man had risen to the occasion. Selwyn Protain, take a bow!

Protain Is Good for You!

Selwyn delivered a superb performance to claim 1st place and the Captain's Day title, proving once again that Protain is good for you! Mark Henry secured an excellent 2nd place, while Raf Roberts finished 3rd. Another Major, another top-five finish for Raf. At this point, we're more surprised when his name doesn't appear on the leaderboard! Fresh from winning the Summer Singles Matchplay competition, Edwin Waldron continued his fine form with 4th place, while Colin Parson, better known as The Dark Lord, completed the top five.

Clearly, the force was with Colin, although not quite enough to trouble Selwyn at the top!

Raf Roberts Wins the Race to La Cala!

While Selwyn claimed the day's honours, Raf Roberts secured the biggest prize of the season. After months of consistently excellent golf, Raf finished top of the 2026 ACGA Order of Merit, earning the title of Best Player of the Season and winning the coveted Race to La Cala prize! His victory at Westerham and regular appearances among the leading finishers demonstrated the consistency required to win a season-long competition. Others enjoyed their moments of brilliance, but Raf kept delivering when it mattered.

Congratulations, Raf! A thoroughly deserved Order of Merit title and Race to La Cala victory!

Lainey Is Our Most Improved Player!

Another well-deserved accolade went to Elaine "Lainey" Brown, named the ACGA's Lady Golfer of the Year. Lainey's season included that unforgettable victory at Aldenham, where she confidently announced on the first tee that she intended to win. Eighteen holes and 40 Stableford points later, she'd done exactly that! Her progress throughout the season has been a pleasure to witness and is further evidence that the ACGA ladies are raising the standard. Gentlemen, you've been warned before. The driving range is open. Use it! Congratulations, Lainey! Finally there was George “Junior” Grant who was the Most Improved Golfer this season. Congratulations George…

Selwyn clearly wasn't satisfied with winning the main competition. Some people just don't know when to stop!

Woody Takes Charge of the Blob-o-meter!

With regular Blob Master Steve Garner absent, apparently undergoing shin implants in a desperate attempt to increase his stature within the Association, responsibility fell to Mike "Woody" Woodstock. And Blob Master #2 certainly didn't disappoint! Woody stepped into the role with enthusiasm, ensuring that questionable scorecards, unfortunate mishaps and the occasional attempted negotiation were all converted into charitable contributions. By the end of proceedings, the Blob-o-meter had raised an impressive £335. including a generous donation from members of Harpenden Common Golf Club, who were present at the time of Woody administering justice….

Steve, your position might not be as secure as you think!

£1,165 Raised for Charity!

The generosity didn't stop with the blobs. Six golf clubs kindly donated complimentary four-ball rounds, which were auctioned to members during the Captain's Day celebrations. Our sincere thanks go to:

 - Redbourn Golf Club

- Harpenden Common Golf Club

- Aldwickbury Park Golf Club

- Surrey National Golf Club

- Chelsfield Downs Golf Club

- Westerham Golf Club

The auction raised a fantastic £830, bringing the day's total to:

Blob-o-meter: £335

Golf auction: £830

Total raised for charity: £1,165!

An outstanding achievement and a wonderful demonstration of the generosity and community spirit at the heart of the ACGA. - not to mention the bad golf…

Thank you to the contributing golf clubs, everyone who placed a bid and all those who supported the fundraising.

A Day Worthy of the Captain

Captain's Day delivered everything we've come to expect from the ACGA: competitive golf, plenty of laughter, great company and a genuine commitment to giving back. Special thanks to Captain Randy Plowright, the committee and everyone who helped make the day such a success.

Congratulations to Selwyn Protain, our Captain's Day champion, Lainey Brown, our Most Improved Player, and Raf Roberts, the 2026 Order of Merit Champion and Race to La Cala winner.

And with £1,165 raised for charity, the day's biggest winners were the worthy causes that will benefit from our members' generosity.

As for Steve Garner, we look forward to his return, hopefully a few inches taller, although whether he'll still have a job waiting for him remains to be seen!

Well played, everyone. Another fantastic day for the ACGA! 🏆⛳
