Raf……..Again!

Captain’s day at Brookman’s Park GC not only saw the end of Mark Henry’s highly successful tenure as ACGA Captain, but also saw the culmination of the season’s push for individual honours and bragging rights. Brookman’s Park once again didn’t disappoint. The course condition, staff friendliness and helpfulness help the large 50+ field enjoy what was a very successful day. Captain Mark and long-time member Steve Lee-Sang both brought along the next generation of ACGA members, as their sons Cameron and Max respectively, made their ACGA debuts. Unfortunately, Mark will live to regret that decision, as Cameron proceeded to beat him around the course to the point where our illustrious Captain scored 19 points…………and no, not on the front nine.

At the end of a very enjoyable round (for some) and following an enjoyable meal where wine and music flowed freely, it was down to business. First of all, our Blobmeister in Chief Stevie G Garner completed the season’s charity takings. Once again, the filed was extremely generous in giving. His final act was to announce this season’s Champion scratch point scorer. Once again, Mickey Griffin held off a big push from Chris Thomas to retain his title. Congratulations Mickey!

Now for the main prizes. On the day, Raf Roberts stood supreme Again!! and brought the field home to win his 2nd Major of the season. Unfortunately, this didn’t quite deliver the season’s overall Order Of Merit Champions Trophy. Due to his consistent play throughout the season, this year’s OOM Champion is Georger “Junior” Grant. He was followed in 2nd place by Raf Roberts, and 3rd was former Captain Phim Nugent.

In what is becoming a recurring theme, we had a multiple season winner with George Grant also being victorious in the 2025 Singles tournament after beating Cora Edwards in a hotly contested final.

Our Lady Champion Golfer and Most Improved Player trophies both went to the same well deserved member. Take a bow Denise Regis. Onwards and upwards and hopefully you’ll be competing next year for the Major trophies.

Congratulations to all the season’s winners. The golf has been of a high standard again, as is always the case with the ACGA…

Once Mark had recovered from the shame and ignominy of his performance AND it being publicized in front of his entire family, he brought proceedings to an end. Another throughly enjoyable season is now complete. On we move to 2026 and the stewardship of our next captain Mr Randy Plowright.
