Captain’s Address - 2022 Season
New Year, New Season, New Captaincy
Dear Members, friends and family of the ACGA,
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all of you as we embrace the 2022 Golf season.
Vice Captain Mark Henry and Captain Phil Nugent
In January 2021, we were in the midst of a National lockdown, golf courses were closed and our season looked in jeopardy. The gloom and uncertainty that we faced last year, is perhaps lessened, but we are still having to function in an environment that is far from normal.
When we have our season opener in March, the Champion of Champions., a stroke-play event which is open to all previous winners of an ACGA major, it will pave the way for an exciting series of Golf days culminating in Captains Day in October, which is the season finale.
Our first Major in 2022 will be held at Harpenden Common Golf Club. This event is open to members and their guests, and is a great opportunity to welcome new golfers that have joined in the closed season. There are a total of 7 major events played at different courses between April and October, as well as a singles competition for members that choose to enter.
At the end of this journey we will be crowning our new Order of Merit winner. This title is currently held by Frank Skinner. The next champion who has been the most consistent throughout the season will not only have bragging rights for the following 12 months, but will also win the coveted trophy.
This season we will be supporting the same two charities, The Wellbeing of Women and Prostrate Cancer UK, who both received £3567.91 from us last year. Thank You to all of our members and guests for their generous donations.
The ACGA was formed way back in 1993 by four golfing buddies, Daryl Oxley, Tony Johnson, Frank Skinner and Tony Irish. Sadly only two of the four are still with us. Frank Skinner and Tony Irish still play with us today, Frank serving on the current committee as Secretary.
Our ethos now is not that far removed from then, and our mission is to provide a fun golf day for everyone who participates, where golf is all that matters. Skin colour, race and gender have no relevance at our ACGA golf days. A sense of humour and copious amounts of banter do!!
For those of you who rely on social media for your information you can follow us on Instagram @acga_uk or Twitter @acgagolf and feel free to like or comment on any posts that you see.
Looking forward to seeing all of you and playing some great golf in 2022.
